Form follow function, vice versa. WHAT ARE THEY?
what is form follow function? what is function follow form?
Form and function go hand in hand in a project, and since there is no right or wrong in architectural design. I personally believe that it is really a matter of personal perception and resolving. It is one of the issues that give us more than one solution to design issues. Both are equally important and cannot be neglected for the other's sake.

Peter Eisenman, in his book, Reworking Eisenman,"Post functionalism does not mean that a building should not function; rather the form should not necessarily represent that function". So may be if we look at this topic in relation to the above statement we might be able to see beyond the linier relationship (following one another)of form and function.

Whether form follows function or function follows form is a topic being discussed by everyone related to this profession all through the years starting from the classical to the postmodern period. Initially it was function follows form. Modernism came up with the idea that form follows function. Now postmodernism says that both function and form are important.
But this note is tell you my idea of this topic. Yes, I am turning back and walking towards classical period just to borrow the caption -- function follows form. But let me make some changes i.e., function follws not form but the ambiance created within a building.
Broadly, buildings can be classified into two: functionalistic and non functionalistic. A large percentage of buildings fall in the second category where ambiance is more important than function (residences, museums, recreation spaces etc.) I have seen people talking of function even in the case of non-functionalistic buildings. They criticize the "Falling Water" since the client was not able to maintain it properly. But is it just maintenance and safety what we look in buildings?
Above all these, there is a third dimension to this feeling. There are some feelings which you can't express. How will you express the soothing effect which you will experience when you sit on the shore of a river? In architecture we are not merely making buildings which are geometrically perfect and functionally excellent. We need to develop an architecture which cannot be viewed with eyes but with the mind.
